- Collection of linked previously published short stories, some revised for this edition, with a new story as bridging material. Also includes a new timeline, as well as adding references to the previous-published Xeelee novels in the form of footnotes.
- The timeline indicates that the chronological sequence of the previously published novels is: 1. Timelike Infinity, 2. Raft, 3. Flux, 4. Ring. The 'Vacuum Flower' stories are interspersed.
