A Story of the Days to Come (1899)
by H. G. Wells
Book Notes
• First published as five stories in Pall Mall Magazine June to October 1899, with illustrations by Edmund J. Sullivan.
• Published in two parts, Amazing Stories April–May 1928, illus. by Frank R. Paul and R. E. Lawlor.
Original subtitles (below) set the stories explicitly in years A.D. 2090 to 2098.
In the 2008 Gutenberg ebook, "A Story of the Days to Come" is divided in parts by five numbered headings:
• I—The Cure for Love
• II—The Vacant Country
• III—The Ways of the City
• IV—Underneath
• V—Bindon Intervenes [1899 main title, "The Magnanimity of the Man of Pleasure"]
Omitting the numbers, the first four of those headings are the main parts of the first four original story titles in their original sequence.
